For 372 University of Houston-Victoria students the end is near - that is, graduation.

Not only will more than 300 students be walking across the stage to receive their diploma, but also this year's commencement speaker will be U.S. Rep. Ron Paul.

This graduation ceremony will not only be the end, but the beginning for students who plan on embarking on new journeys after graduation.

Star Arnold, a graduating senior, plans to take a small break before beginning to pursue a career in teaching.

"I will probably go on a cruise with the family, whom I am sure have felt neglected with all the time I have spent with school," Arnold said.

Dustin Hahn noted that he is looking forward to relaxing in the summer and then pursing a master's degree.

"I believe at the moment that I might go to Region III and become a teacher and coach in the future," Hahn said, "then keep going for my master's and eventually be a college volleyball coach."

Other students commented on how UHV has helped prepare them for any opportunity that may come their way in the future.

Froylan Silva said, "UHV has been so good to me as a student, and the education I have received has prepared me with knowledge that distinguishes me from most."

UHV has also helped many students reach their goals.

"I have gained confidence," Melissa Nieto said. "UHV tested me in every aspect of my life, and I won."

Nieto stressed that she would be prepared for the future because of the education she attained at UHV.

"I feel that my future is very secure," she said.

UHV's spring commencement ceremony will be held 9 a.m. May 10 at the UHV campus. In case of bad weather, the ceremony will be moved to 1 p.m. at Faith Family Church.
