The University of Houston-Victoria International Programs and faculty
are currently in the process of organizing a study-abroad trip to Spain.

The Intensive Language Program in Spain is a 3- to 5-week study that is available to UHV students anytime of the year.

Another program, the Consortia Keystone University Program, is also currently in the planning stages. The program is a 12-week semester study and is scheduled to start in the spring of 2008.

"The essence of the two programs is to give the students alternatives for their schedules," said Vic Padelford, director of International Programs.

The students will be studying the Spanish language and culture and can earn 3 to 15 college-semester hours of credit.

"Spanish is an extremely useful language in whatever profession students elect, and the Latino population is the fastest growing
demographic group in Texas," Padelford said.

"The way you understand other cultures is by living in them and interacting with them," Padelford said.

Granada, a province of Andalusia, is the preferred location in Spain, however, several other sites are also available.

Students are responsible for all funds associated with participation in one of the programs. They may apply for financial aid or student loans to help pay for their trip. Also, university scholarship funds and several national programs are available to students to help pay for their expenses.

"Comprehensive Internationalization is a goal not only for UHV but also for the entire University of Houston System in order to help our students succeed in an ever more global economy," Padelford said.
